This is an album that has been in heavy rotation on my iTunes/iPod in the past few weeks. Sort of a post hardcore meets indie sound. With a guy singer and girl screamer, this band has been a breath of fresh air to me. In an instant they can cross from a pop punky sound to heavy breakdowns reminiscent of Ion Dissonance. I remember seeing this band play the Safety Sheep House back in high school and being in awe at how catchy their music was and how great of a live show they put on. When they played Last Call, everybody knew the words and everybody sang along. As with many bands that I listen to regularly, The Invocation has disbanded and gone their separate directions. A good listen and a very unique mix of sounds that makes me think they are still ahead of the times.
In their own words, "The Invocation is a collection of sounds created from the pain and dreams of a restless youth. Being not afraid to speak of the reality of death, thoughts of suicide, the pain of losing those you love and the mental high of having someone near... A sound that is new and expressed in a way that you will not forget the first time you see us play, we strive to leave you with the impression of four sad little boys and one pissed off girl. That's what we were." And they aren't lying.
For fans of other local east TN bands such as Beware: The Gentlemen, Mouth Movements, Red Winter Dying, The Shape, Secret Lives of the Freemasons, This is Renaissance, and Gamenight.
*NOTE: I had to search for and rip each of these tracks individually due to the lack of the ability to make purchases online. Track 6 and track 11 both cut off the first 1 or 2 seconds of the song due to the site I found them on... Besides that, this is a quality upload and worth your time.*
